Earn a Tax Credit

As part of an effort to reduce dependence on foreign sources of energy, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2012 provides a tax credit to help offset the costs of making energy efficiency improvements to your home. Some key details of this tax credit are as follow:

  • The tax credit applies to a variety of products such as windows, doors, heating and cooling equipment and more.
  • The amount of the credit is determined by the purchase. High efficiency heating and air conditioning can qualify for up to $500. How to get Your Federal Tax Credit
  • The credit it a one-time event and if a taxpayer has claimed an energy tax credit in 2011 of 2012 they may not claim another in 2013.

Tax credits, unlike deductions, are subtracted directly from the total amount you owe on your personal income taxes. For example, if you complete your tax return and calculate that you owe the IRS $2,000, a tax credit of $500 would reduce your tax bill to $1,500. We recommend checking with your tax adviser to determine how best take advantage of these tax credits.

Keep in mind that your savings will not be limited to a one-time tax credit. You’ll continue saving every month with reduced monthly cooling and heating bills.

To help you obtain your maximum credit under the new legislation, we can help you select the products that best suit your home, your comfort needs, and at the same time, deliver the highest possible credit.
